The Orangeville Outlaws U16 team is in a big loop this season, meaning there will be a lot of travelling.

They hosted the Sudbury Spartans on Sunday, June 4, on the field at Westside Secondary School.

After playing on a turf field in Bolton last year, the team executive made the decision to move the team’s home base back to the grass at Westside.

It was a tough game for the Outlaws in their first outing of the season.

The Spartans scored twice and completed two successful converts early in the first quarter to take a 4-0 lead. They scored again at the end of the quarter.

Orangeville was on defence for most of the second quarter. The Sudbury team went heaving on a passing game and did a good job moving the ball down the field.

When the Outlaws got the ball on a turnover, they couldn’t dig out and were stuck deep in their own end, forcing them to punt.

At the half, the Spartans were leading 52-0.

The outlaws were back on defence to start the second quarter.

There were some tackles by Nikko Hogeveen, Trey Robinson, and Gianfrancesco Gobbato.

When they had the chance to back on offence, the Outlaws were stymied by a solid Sudbury defence.

Orangeville’s Aiden Alcaraz Dinsdale had a good run, but the Outlaws couldn’t make any ground.

The Outlaws did step it up in the second half keeping the Spartans to one touchdown.

The final was a 59-0 loss for the Outlaws.

There is still plenty of the season left, and the Orangeville team has lot of opportunity to hone their skills. The Outlaws U16 team will return to the field at Westside on Sunday, June 11, when they will host the Clarington Knights.

The kick-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
