Senior hockey is underway, with the Orangeville Blitz playing their first home game at the Alder Street arena on Saturday, Oct. 14.
This is the Blitz’s first season in town, playing in the Western Ontario Super Hockey League. The WOSHL has 10 teams in the line-up in South Central Ontario.
The Blitz moved to Orangeville this year after playing in Erin.
It has been a rough start for the team this season after losing their first four games. They are still looking to put some points on their record this year.
Their first outing against the Petrolia Squires ended with a 10-2 loss. In the second game of the season, they came up short with a 7-2 loss to the Tilbury Bluebirds.
A third loss to the Elora Rocks left the Blitz at the bottom of the standings.
The home opener on Oct. 14 had the Blitz up against the Petrolia Squires.
The Squires went ahead in the first period with two goals midway in the frame.
Orangeville’s Matlock Bobechko scored with 1:21 left on the clock to put the Blitz on the scoreboard.
Both teams scored one in the second period.
Blake Lovell got the Blitz goal just a minute and a half into the period.
The Blitz were trailing 6-2 in the final period when Petrolia scored at 1:22, followed up with two more just 18 seconds apart late in the frame.
With time running out, the Blitz scored two late goals, the last one coming with 17 seconds on the clock.
Orangeville goals came from Jesse Chidwick and a second one for the night for Matlock Bobechko.
The Blitz will be back on home ice at the Alder Street arena on Saturday, Oct. 21, when they will host the Alinston Killer Beers.
The puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
