Meet with Word Wiz Harry Posner at library

Orangeville Public Library is kicking off a new Poet in Residence program with a writing workshop. Under the guidance of Harry Posner, the Word Wiz, the new initiative offers local writers’ opportunities to participate in workshops, learn from the resident writer one-on-one, and network with other writers in the community.

The “Sentence Your Words to Life” workshop focuses on taking one’s writing from the page to the stage. Topics include stage presence, modulation of voice, connecting with the audience, and tricks for memorization. 

This hands-on program runs on Monday, June 24 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Mill Street Library. Register on the library website (orangevillelibrary.ca) or by calling 519-941-0610.

“Whether you have been writing poetry for years, or you are just getting started, this workshop will help bring confidence, energy and passion to poetry performance,” says Mr. Posner. “I am excited to have the opportunity to share my passion for spoken word with aspiring writers.”

Harry will also be at the Mill Street Library every second Monday starting July 8 for one-on-one writing sessions. No registration is required so just drop in for a conversation with the Word Wiz. He is eager to meet with adults and teens who want feedback and advice about a writing project.

Mr. Posner is an award-winning author and poet who serves as Poet Laureate for the County of Dufferin. Harry is a member of Words Aloud poetry collective and performs spoken word poetry both solo and as a member of the percussion/spoken word duo “The Rubber Brothers”. Author of four books and two audio poetry CDs, Harry is a freelance editor, proofreader and podcaster. With literary activist Anthony Carnovale, he co-founded Cyclotron, a local arts organization that builds community connections through storytelling and creative writing workshops, and an arts-centric e-zine, Extra Pulp.
