Junior C Northmen snap six game losing streak with pair of wins

After opening the season with a couple of wins, the Orangeville Junior C North was plagued with injuries that affected the team and resulted in a six-game losing streak.

The streak dropped the Northmen to sixth place in the seven-team West Division.

With the roster slowly returning to full health, the Northmen pulled off a couple of much need wins over the past week.

On Wednesday, May 24, the Northmen travelled to Fergus to take on the Thistles – a rivalry that was highlighted by a riveting best-of-five West Division Final Series last season.

After a tight first period, Orangeville was leading 2-1. The Northmen turned it up a notch in the second, scoring six goals for an 8-3 lead.

The teams locked defensively in the third period, with Orangeville scoring on the only goal for a 9-3 win.

Josh Presley paced the Northmen offence with two goals and five assists. Jack Fitzpatrick added two goals and three assists. Owen Kelly rounded oaut the scoring with one goal and three assists, Zack Dorval had two goals, Lyle MacNeil had one goal and one assist, and Danny Dorval had one goal and one assist.

Jacob Hand had an outstanding night in the net, stopping 40 of 43 shots.

On Saturday, May 27, the Northmen hosted the Halton Hills Bulldogs at Tony Rose Arena.

The Northmen unleashed a flurry on the Bulldogs scoring four goals in the first period, eight in the second period, and six in the third period, leaving the floor with an 18-6 win.

Fitzpatrick led the Northmen scoring with three goals and five assists. Presley is fresh off the injured list and came ready to play. He got three goals and four assists. 

Meanwhile, Luke Downard picked up a goal and six assists. Zack Dorval chipped in with three goals and two assists. Camden McGuire had four goals, and Nick Haladuick had four assists.

The Northmen will be back on home territory at Tony Rose Arena on Saturday, June 3, when they will host the Brantford Warriors.

Game time is 7:00 p.m.
