Slopes remain open for extended season

Local ski resorts are doing whatever they can to recoup losses when they were shut down in prime season and that means extending the spring skiing season as long as they can.
Last week’s warm weather forced some resorts to pack it in, but a few others are squeezing whatever they can out of the last couple of weeks.
Mount St. Louie Moonstone was open for 47 days this season – that’s a fraction of the time they would normally be open in a regular season. Horseshoe Resort was open for 49 days. They recorded about 74,500 skiers hit the slopes on their hills this year. Barrie’s Snow Valley Resort managed to open its hills for only 45 days.
This year’s mid-season forced shutdown hit the industry hard.
Ontario Ski Resort Association president, Kevin Nichol, said ski resorts were the ‘hardest hit sector in Tourism.”
Losses for ski resorts this year are expected to be close to $90 million.
In Collingwood, the Blue Mountain Resort is planning to stay open
and hopefully make the best out of getting back some of what they lost during the shut-down.
They are planning to remain open for seven days a week. Currently they are still operating 20 trails and six lifts.
The resort has a 74 centimetre base.
The Hockley Valley Resort closed for the day on Friday, March 26, due to rain but was open again the next day.
Hockley plans to keep its slopes open until April 5.
COVID-19 restrictions are in place for everyone who wants to get in some spring skiing.
