A 5-storey mixed use building is moving forward in downtown Orangeville.
Orangeville Council unanimously approved plans for the building during their meeting last Monday (August 9), which is being built on 60-62 Broadway (corner of Broadway and Wellington) and will feature 58 two-bedroom residential units as well as close to 600 sq. metres of retail space.
The project was developed in consultation with the Town of Orangeville’s Heritage Committee, and is different from its original design to address issues raised by the public, such as height, shadowing, and the number of units.
Coun. Debbie Sherwood, who sits on the Heritage Committee put forward a motion to accept the building proposal, and noted that she was grateful the developer was able to reduce the height of the building from 23 metres to 20 metres and work with the committee to ensure it fit into the downtown core.
The approved concept also has 58 residential units instead of the originally proposed 60.
Another change from the original proposal was a reduction of retail space by approximately 30 per cent from 800 sq metres to 587.
The development will feature an outdoor amenity area of over 7,000 sq. feet.
A total of 86 parking spaces will be built as well, with 58 spaces for residents, 14 spaces for visitors and 14 spaces for retail customers.
