Local Green Party president is working with MP Kyle Seeback on environmental petition

The Dufferin–Caledon Green Party is taking the initiative to support the launch

of a federal petition objecting to the construction of the proposed Erin Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The region’s Green Party has teamed up with environmental activist, Jenni LeForestier of Belfountain to assist with the success of the petition.

The petition is calling for a Federal Environmental Impact Assessment of the proposed wastewater treatment plant.

Dufferin–Caledon MP Kyle Seeback is now sponsoring the petition, following a conversation initiated by Dufferin–Caledon Green Party president Stefan Wiesen. The petition is now active within the federal government.

Both Wiessen and MP Seeback have agreed to work together to solicit the 500 signatures required to present the petition to Parliament.

This is a positive bi-partisan effort to address the legitimate concerns of residents regarding the environmental impact of the proposed plant on the West Credit River, a pristine spawning ground for native Brook Trout.

It is understood that the temperature of the proposed effluent being pumped into the West Credit River will have a warming effect on the spawning grounds thus negatively threatening the reproductive future of Brook Trout in the river. Furthermore, many substances that are harmful to humans and animals remain in the treated water as it exits the plant.

Jenni LeForestier, left, Dufferin Caledon MP Kyle Seeback and Green Party president Stefan Wiesen stand by the West Credit River, which is under threat if a proposed wastewater treatment plant is built in Erin.
