Mono Council responds to resident concerns during question period

Mono Council opened its session Tuesday evening with public questions, of which there were two.
Mr Parker asked if the Town had the resources to remove noxious weeds and invasive species and particularly Buckthorn, from the community.
The response was that they did not, other than on Town property. However, Coun. Fred Nix explained that other organizations such as the Bruce Trail Conservancy, could help with the problem. One of the issues with Buckthorn is that it is very hard to eradicate without hiring qualified, licensed professionals.
The Town and the Bruce Trail organization do not have licensed people on staff. Clerk Fred Simpson was asked to convey the information to Mr. Parker.
The second question pertained to lowering the speed limit on 3rd Line, between Hwy. 9 and Hockley Road. Coun. Nix opined that in his opinion, this was an issue of enforcement, rather than the speed limit. This was a stretch of flat road and he felt that whether or not the speed limit was changed, those drivers who chose to speed would not be deterred.
Deputy Mayor Creelman concurred, citing the flat road with excellent visibility as a big part of the problem. Mayor Ryan said that enforcement was up presently, but that the OPP could be asked to further watch this section of road. Mr. Simpson was again asked to notify the resident of Councils opinion.
