The Orangeville Junior C Northmen are down, but not out, in the Meredith Cup Championship best-of-seven series against the Clarington Shamrox.
The Meredith Cup pits the west division champions against the east division for the provincial Junior C title.
It has been a grueling low scoring series as both teams are putting out their best effort with lots of good defence to keep the other team away from the net.
The Northmen started the series with a win in front of a hometown crowd at Tony Rose arena on July 31, when they left the floor with a 7-5 win.
They followed up with an 8-6 win in game two of the series at Garnett B. Rickard Recreation Complex in Bowmanville.
Clarington fought back in game three when they managed to go ahead 5-3, then held on to the one goal lead, scoring with just over three minutes left on the clock in the third period for a 6-4 win.
The series was 2-2 when the Shamrox scored four in a row in the second and third periods to take the lead. The Northmen notched two goals in the third period, but couldn’t close the gap and had to settle for an 8-6 loss.
Back to Orangeville for game five, the Northmen had a 3-2 lead at the end of the first period, but the game was tied at five when the teams returned for the final period.
Clarington outscored the Northmen 4-2 in the third period to take a 9-7 win.
The Northmen must win in game six to keep the series alive and force game seven which will bring the entire season down to a single game for both teams.
If the Northmen come out on top in game six, the series will return to Orangeville for the final game which will determine the provincial champions.
Game six got underway on Clarington’s home floor on Wednesday, August 10, with the Northmen winning, forcing game seven.
Game seven will take place at Tony Rose arena in Orangeville on Saturday, August 13, starting at 7 p.m.
The game is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
