A group of local car enthusiasts helped make a boy’s birthday a little brighter when they created a vintage and classic car parade past his Hockley Valley home.
Bentley Boynton, who turned nine years old on June 3, couldn’t have any friends over for his birthday due to the social distancing rules around the COVID- 19 pandemic, so a group of car owners who are regular adherents of the Cruisin’ on First Car Show, did a drive by party past his Mono Adjala Townline house.
Around 17 vintage and classic cars paraded by Bentley’s home, while drivers honked their horns and passengers yelled ‘happy birthday’ while Bentley and his family waved.
He wasn’t aware the parade had been planned so he was quite surprised to see an entire convey coming around the bend near the Hockley General store.
His family had already had a sign placed in front of their home asking people to honk their horn as they passed by to help celebrate the birthday.
Bentley is a big classic car fan.
“I liked my grandpa’s car,” Bentley said of his grandfather’s vintage Ford Falcon. “This was a big surprise. I liked the Corvettes.”
“I was asked to do a birthday drive-by,” said organizer, David Murphy, who runs the weekly Cruisin’ on First Car Show on Orangeville on Wednesday night’s. “He was down because he couldn’t have friends over for his birthday. His mom has a friend who is a member of our club.”
This year the Car Show has been postponed due to the restrictions on groups of people meeting, so this parade was the next best thing.
It gave car owners an excuse to bring their prize cars out for a drive while making a boy’s birthday a little more fun.
Car owners started meeting in the parking lot at the Adjala Central Public School so they could get organized before lining up and heading down the road.
Bentley was surprised as his father pointed out the cars coming around the bend and did a count of the number showing up in a big long line.
Bentley may not have been able to have friends stop in for his birthday, but he sure made a lot of new friends who came by to wish him well on his special day.
