Cameron and his brother Devon Dunkerley have been removing all sorts of debris from construction, renovations, and torn-down decks or sheds from residential and business properties as part of their business Dunk Disposal. They’ve also cleared other spaces for many reasons over the past five years.
The brothers work with a view of wanting to help as many people as possible. In the last couple of years, they have staged individual days to help as a free service. This includes an old bikes run, collecting food for the food bank and other initiatives. This year, the free pick-up is focused on old tires from automobiles and small trucks for next Thursday (Oct. 27) from 9 a.m. onwards. To book a tire pickup, call 519-217-7149.
“We noticed a lot of customers have spare tires left around. We have charged a fee for taking them away but this time we’re doing it totally for free on this one day,” said Cameron Dunkerley.
“There’s a disposal fee for us to bring tires to the dump but we’ve arranged with our dump this once, a free tire disposal which is why we can offer this one-day service for free to anyone who calls us,” he said, urging people to, “please call us and we’ll come and pick them up.”
The tire disposal dump has a system to cut tires up and reuse the rubber.
“We just sorted out a completely separate agreement with the dump, with the arrangement as a one-time thing that we can do. They can’t be doing this consistently and they will take only old ones that have just been sitting around,” said Cameron Dunkerley.
As a company, the Dunkerley brothers have been talking about doing another community event when they decided on this. Fall time is typically when people have their old tires to get rid of, from changing them to snow tires, for example.
“Come Christmas time,” he said, “We’re planning to do another event.”
Dunk Disposal as a business is known for “nothing but good.” They try to help their customers as much as possible, doing “our best to sort out this stuff whenever we can.”
They have been working hard to stay as busy as they can, garnering new business, doing jobs at Canadian Tire and Tim Hortons and for businesses on Broadway and the Caledon New Market.
“We’re developing a really wide base of customers,” Mr. Dunkerley was happy to say. “I put a lot of time and effort into it; treat it like a baby, from nothing to where we are now. For the time being, as much as it takes is what I’m going to do.”
Covid-19 made a difference but they were able to push through, based on guidelines to keep their employees and customers safe.
New systems and tactics are constantly being created and Dunk Disposal is growing as much as it can with its online presence, sharing what they do, introducing employees; offering information and tips on how to help or how people can clean up themselves.
For Cameron Dunkerley, his family, sport and business, making sure “our customers are always taken care of” is his focus, while looking forward to seeing what happens next; a little bit more growth, and meaningful relationships with other businesses. The more that will allow them to grow to work full time throughout the year.
“Things do slow down in the winter,” he commented.
When it comes to the tire collection event, they are super excited to see how interested the community is. People do not have to bring their tires; Dunk Disposal is going to come and pick them up
“We will be looking to see how many people take advantage of the service,” he said.
