It’s back and better than ever!
Christmas in the Park, a free event run annually in Kaycee Gardens by the Orangeville Optimists Club, will be returning Dec. 3 to Dec. 31.
Opening night is on Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m., and afterwards the park will be open from 5:30 to 10:00 p.m. every night for the 29 days it’s running.
“It’s going to be a spectacular night,” exclaims Tina Clare, one of the club members.
The park will be decorated with over 50,000 lights and many displays and exhibits – including five new additions.
Created by the Orangeville Senior Centre and continued by the Optimists, the event has been running for 32 years altogether, with each year adding something new to make it that much better.
This year, new displays including “Melody’s Archway”, a pergola over the path that will be decorated with lights, and a family of trolls living under the bridge will be some of the additions.
The Optimists put work into the event all year round, creating new and fixing up older displays to build an experience that is often seen as tradition for many local residents.
The Optimists often receive help from the Rotary Club of Orangeville, along with Orangeville Hydro and High School students who are looking to volunteer.
And for those who have not been out to Christmas in the Park, Optimist and event organizer Dennis Cox encourages folks to “give it a try”, noting that “once [you] see it, [you’ll] come back”.
Due to the pandemic last year, guidelines in place made it difficult to run the event as people were not allowed to walk through the park.
This year, Public Health has given the “go-ahead” to design an experience that is “as normal as normal is”, but the Optimists still advise individuals to express caution.
