The Canadian Lacrosse League has announced the Team Canada final roster for the 2018 World Junior Lacrosse Championship and two Northmen from the local Junior B Club are in the line-up.

Northmen Tanner Buck and Liam McGrath were named to the team after a summer evaluation period.

“First and foremost, our staff and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the players and families who were a part of the 40-man player pool and selection process throughout the summer evaluation period,” said Chris Fox, executive director of the Canadian Lacrosse League and the team’s general manager. “We would also like to extend our well wishes to the players who are still competing for their respective league championships for the opportunity to compete for a Canadian National championship.”

The 2018 Canada roster includes 23 players representing five provinces – Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Saskatchewan.

For the fist time in international box lacrosse history each nation will be represented by one team at the IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship. A unified Canada roster featuring players from coast to coast will compete against a centralized Iroquois team and a focused squad from the U.S.

Tanner Buck ended the 2018 OJBLL regular season as the top scorer on the Northmen team.

After 20 games, he was credited with 35 goals and 46 assist for 81 in the points column.

Buck went on to score 18 goals in eight playoff games while recording another 20 assists.

Liam McGrath played 19 games in the regular season scoring 18 goals and getting 41 assists for the season.

He went on to score four goals in eight playoff games and picked up 12 assists for 16 playoff series points.

Only two players from the 2017 Canada roster will be returning to the team.

“We have some work to do,” Fox said. “Some of these players are stars on their respective junior teams but we’ll ask them to play more dynamic roles. Because of the quick turn-around time our staff has focused on selecting players who have the character and emotional intelligence, along with the skill, to do what’s need in the best interest of the team and winning gold.”

Canada was to open the 2018 WJLC against Iroquois on Wednesday, at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon.
