The Orangeville Junior Bengals are in good shape going into the first round of the North Dufferin Baseball League playoffs.
The Bengals finished the season in third place with a 10-9 record.
Their final regular season game had them playing the Mansfield Cubs in Mansfield on Thursday, July 13.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Bengals were on the scoreboard when Ryan Hussey hit a huge single run home run over the centre field fence.
That was followed up by another huge hit from Logan Sheppard to almost the exact same spot in the field for a double.
A walk with bases loaded tied the game at two.
An error allowed another Mansfield run in the second inning to give the Cubs a 3-2 lead.
It was the fifth inning that made all the difference for the Bengals.
Logan Sheppard hit in the tying run, followed by another run batted in from Dale Critchley.
The Bengals were ahead 7-3 when Adam Sutowski slammed a big one to allow three runners to score.
A two-run home run from Dale Critchley in the top of the sixth inning game gave the Bengals a 9-3 lead.
Mansfield rallied in their last at-bat scoring three runs, but that’s all they could do for the night, and the Bengals left the diamond with a 9-6 win in their final regular season game.
The NDBL Junior division will now start the playoffs.
The top two teams, Orillia Royals and Creemore Padres, will get a bye in the first round.
The bottom team in the seven-team division will not make the playoffs.
As a third-place team, the Bengals will be up against the Barrie Baycats in the first round of playoffs.
The other series will be played between the Innisfil Cardinals and the Mansfield Cubs.
Winners of those two series will advance to the semi-final in a bid to go to the Junior Division championship.
