The New Lowell Knights will advance to the North Dufferin Baseball League Senior Division championship after winning their best-of-five second-round playoff series against the Barrie Angels.
It was a low-scoring series for all three games.
Game one on Sunday, Aug. 20, saw the Knights squeeze out a shut-out when they left the diamond with a 2-0 win in Barrie.
The following night, the teams were in New Lowell for game two. The Knights led the series 2-0 after winning that game 6-3.
It ended on Wednesday, Aug. 3, when the squad played game three in New Lowell. The Knights came out on top 6-4 to win the game and the series.
New Lowell will now attend the NDBL Championship series, which is scheduled for Sept. 9.
The other second-round series between the Bolton Brewers and Ivy Rangers has Bolton leading by four points after game three ended in a 6-6 tie.
The Brewers were leading 2-0 after winning the first two games – two points for each win.
In the event of a tie, each team receives one point, and a total of six is needed to take the series.
The Bolton Brewers and Ivy Rangers series has had a few challenges.
The Brewers smoked the Rangers 10-0 in game one.
Game two ended up being a six-inning event after the game was called due to darkness. The Brewers won the game 6-4.
Highlights of that game include a two-run home run from Bolton’s Stephen Warden and a single-run home run from Bolton’s Carter Burnside.
In the Ivy camp, Riley Davies hit a three-run home run, and Adam Vanderheyden hit a solo home run.
Game three of the series was stopped at the bottom of the 4th due to rain and lightning. At the time of the suspension, Bolton was leading 8-2. There was an attempt to get the field back in playable condition, but it started raining again to end the night.
Game three was back on Sunday, Aug. 27.
Ivy was leading the game 6-0, but the Brewers had a huge comeback to tie the game at 6-6.
Game four of the series was scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 29, in Ivy.
