The Gould Team’s “Share the Warmth” winter clothing drive was a roaring success this year, with roughly 600 items donated in Orangeville and over 16,000 across Remax’s 16 offices in southern Ontario.

The donations have now been sent to Good Shepherd Centres where they’ll be distributed to homeless individuals or those in need of warm clothing in time for Christmas.

Owner of Gould Team, Jerry Gould told the Citizen while many of the donations come from realtors, their clients always amaze him with their generosity for yearly charitable initiatives.

“Our clients are the best. Around this time of year my clients often ask, can they give us a gift and I always say to donate to whatever our endeavour is that particular year, whether it’s the mitts and hats or the socks, I ask them to donate to that, and they really run with it,” Gould noted.

He said some of the clients even donated knitted or crocheted a pair of mitts, hat, or scarf that they made themselves.

“Orangeville has always been a very generous community, but this year more than ever, honestly, I’ve never seen anything like it,” Gould remarked.

“In a year that has been so difficult for so many, you wouldn’t really know it, because people found it in their hearts to be even more generous this year.”

Gould told the Citizen he’s amazed with the community’s response despite the economic challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said donations are more important this year than ever before because of the hardships being endured by Canadians because of the virus.

“It’s been a tough year on them under normal circumstances, but you add in COVID-19, it’s even worse,” said Gould.

“Some of the warming centres aren’t open, things that would normally be working and running normally, they are not anymore, so these gloves and hats are definitely going to be come in handy for those that need them.”

Next year, the Gould Team will host a similar fundraiser that supports a different cause.

In the meantime, they’d like to wish everyone the best over the holiday season.

“We would like to just wish everyone in Orangeville a healthy and happy, Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy and prosperous New Year,” Gould enthused.
