Orangeville Police have arrested and charged a 28-year-old Proton Station man, with impaired driving as a result of a single-vehicle collision last Friday afternoon.
At approximately 2:45 p.m., police received a call to attend a motor vehicle collision on Centennial Road just east of C Line. Investigation revealed that a black Chevrolet pick-up truck had been eastbound on Centennial Road when it left the roadway on the south side of the street, then crossed the roadway, struck a hydro pole and travelled through the ditch on the north side of Centennial.
The vehicle came to rest after striking the side of a commercial building at 71 Centennial Road. The driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and Centennial Road from C Line to Robb Boulevard was closed for several hours while Orangeville Hydro completed repairs to hydro lines.
John David Micks, 28, of Proton Station, was arrested and charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg/100 mL. He is scheduled to appear in court in Orangeville to answer to the allegations.
Theft leads to multiple charges
Orangeville Police have arrested and charged a 38-year-old Bolton man with several criminal offences following an incident at Home Hardware last Friday morning.
At approximately 8:15 a.m., police attended Orangeville Home Hardware at 60 Fourth Avenue, regarding a disturbance between the owner and a customer. The customer had left the store prior to police arriving, but police learned that the customer had left without paying for two saw blades. He then a friend’s vehicle without permission, leaving the friend stranded at the store.
The ensuing investigation led police to the rear of a retail plaza at 88 First Street where the suspect was located in the vehicle that he had left Home Hardware in about two hours and 45 minutes earlier.
Shane McMullan, 38, of Bolton, was arrested and charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by crime, operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs, possession of heroin, taking a motor vehicle without consent and driving while under suspension. He is scheduled to appear in court in Orangeville on September 24, to answer to the allegations.
OPP laying charges in overdose-related deaths
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has had 13 occurrences where charges have been laid for Manslaughter and/or Criminal Negligence Causing Death in relation to fatal overdoses since 2016. Eight of these occurrences were this year.
The 13 overdose-related death investigations have led to 20 Manslaughter and 12 Criminal Negligence! Causing Death charges. The OPP is not the only police service to lay charges of this nature. Other police services across the province are collectively sending the same message – there is no excuse for selling, distributing or trafficking drugs such as fentanyl when the deadliness of this drug is very well-known.
