Westside delivers 57-19 win over Erin on opening day

The District 4 high school boys basketball season got underway on Monday, November 30.

The Westside Secondary School Thunder hosted the Erin District High School raiders for the opening tip-off with a 2:30 p.m. start in the Westside gym.

It didn’t take the Thunder long to take control of the game.

Westside was leading 29-6 at the half then widened the gap in the third quarter scoring 16 points to make it a 49-12 game going into the final quarter.

“I thought it was a good game. We played well as a team and we distributed the ball pretty well to get the shots,” Said Thunder point guard Blayke Ferguson. “We were pretty con dent coming in, maybe not that we were going to have a lead like this, but we were con dent with our skill set and con dent we could make a good run of this game.”

On top of playing a well positioned game, the Thunder have good shooting skills and were consistently making baskets.

The Erin squad played a solid game as well but had a lot more trouble dropping the ball through the hoop.

There are five teams in the District 4 loop. Along with Westside, teams are entered from Centre Dufferin District High School, Erin District High School, Wellington Heights, and Emmanuel Christian High School.

The teams have an eight game regular season schedule.

The Thunder senior team will be back on their home court on Monday, December 7, to host Emmanuel Christian High School for their third game of the season.

The tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in the Westside gym.
