WHEN WE FIRST HEARD about the project, the Ministry of Transportation talked of the work on Highway 10 between Orangeville and Primrose taking place in 2017.
However, after the contract was awarded to Aecon, signs went up indicating the work would only start in 2017 and would carry over until the fall of 2018.
Well, here we are in the fall of 2018 and virtually nothing has been done on the Orangeville Bypass part of the project, save for months of the key First Street intersection being reduced to two lanes while most days there’s not a worker in sight, much less any supervision by MTO personnel from way-off London.
Aecon is one of the largest construction firms in Canada, but you’d never know it from touring the roadway. The snail’s pace of construction work stands in sharp contrast to the speedy work currently under way on Dufferin 109, work which also included culvert replacements.
Could it be that construction firms work a lot faster when their projects are supervised by counties?
