Town invites residents to clean up Orangeville, celebrate Provincial Day of Action on Litter

Keeping Orangeville beautiful is a year-round task, but the spring presents a great opportunity to start fresh by cleaning up around the community.

With that in mind, the Town of Orangeville is inviting residents to come together in celebration of the fourth annual Provincial Day of Action on Litter by working together to clean our community.

On May 9, 2023, the Town and the Province of Ontario encourage those living and working in Ontario to help raise awareness of the impacts of litter on our environment and to take part in helping clean up litter around their communities.

“We are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful community with residents who have a great deal of pride in our spaces,” said Orangeville Councillor Tess Prendergast, chair of the Sustainable Orangeville Committee. “Together, we can show our passion for Orangeville by committing to helping clean up the litter and brightening our Town as spring brings back the bright colours and green spaces we all enjoy so often.”

There’s a couple of ways for residents to get involved.

They can arrange a neighbourhood or community park litter cleanup. The Town of Orangeville provides items like gloves and garbage bags, as well as instructions on where litter can be disposed of. Contact parks@orangeville.ca to find out more.

Residents can also join community cleanup initiatives that are happening locally to clean up roads, trailways, and parks in town.

These include Make Orangeville Shine, taking place at Rotary Park on May 13 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. No registration is required.

The Downtown Orangeville Clean Sweep Event takes place on May 13, with local businesses sweeping Broadway to clean up the downtown area. Check in with your favourite local business to see if they are participating.
