Orangeville’s Mill St. became a hub for craft beverages and local eats for the Taste of Orangeville and In Good Spirits events over the weekend.
For the first time, In Good Spirits was held on Friday, Aug. 18, featuring a fantastic selection of beer, wine, cocktails, spirits, mead and non-alcoholic versions of everyone’s favourite drinks to sample. Roughly 300 people came out to enjoy a craft beverage despite an evening of cold weather.
The 8th Annual Taste of Orangeville saw approximately 2,100 people come to Mill St. to sample a wide variety of dishes from restaurants across the region.
The Taste of Orangeville was held in the same format as last year, under the big tent on Mill St., with attendees using tickets to sample food items.
Downtown Orangeville, the organization that hosts both events, said they usually put on a fashion show on Friday night and would hold Taste of Orangeville on Saturday.
This year, they decided to try something new, with Phil Dewar from Soulyve Catering coming up with the idea for a craft beverage event.
“He offered to help us get it going and to sponsor the event and we ran with it,” said Alison Scheel, general manager of Downtown Orangeville.
Downtown Orangeville plans to make In Good Spirits an annual event based on the positive feedback received.
“I think we’ll have some disappointed people if we don’t,” Scheel enthused.
