Shelburne Police Service disbanded Feb. 18, replaced with OPP

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirms that the transition of policing services to the OPP from the Shelburne Police Service (SPS) will occur on February 18, 2021 at 12:00 p.m.

On December 16, 2020, the Town of Shelburne received the Ontario Civilian Police Commission’s decision to approve the disbanding of the SPS, which was a necessary step in order to transfer to OPP services.

During an initial two-week transition period, the OPP’s Dufferin Detachment will provide coverage of calls for service under Detachment Commander Inspector Terry Ward. The former SPS police headquarters will not be used as an OPP Detachment, and upon completion of the two-week transition period members will continue to provide coverage from the OPP Dufferin Detachment.

For non-emergencies, call 1-888-310-1122 (toll free in Ontario). To reach the OPP Dufferin Detachment, call 519-925-3838 or fax 519-925-6462. In an emergency, always call 9-1-1. For information on the OPP, police record checks and reporting crime using the Online Reporting tool, visit opp.ca.
