Effective Wednesday, Ronald Morden has taken on the role of Fire Chief for the Town of Orangeville.
Chief Morden has more than 30 years of emergency services experience, including the last 15 as the town’s Deputy Chief. Prior to joining the Fire Department in 2000, Chief Morden worked with the Shelburne and District Fire Department, progressing through the ranks from firefighter to Training Officer to Captain to Chief.
Chief Morden has multiple certifications in fire, ambulance and emergency care training; is a member of the Ontario, Canadian and International Associations of Fire Chiefs; is the Dufferin County Assistant Fire Co-ordinator; and is a founding member and former director of Dufferin Safe Communities.
In 2015, Chief Morden was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, in recognition of his contributions to the implementation of Public Access Defibrillation throughout Dufferin County Fire Departments and municipal facilities in Orangeville.
Chief Morden’s appointment as Fire Chief was endorsed by Orangeville Council at Monday’s meeting. The appointment will be formalized with the passage of a bylaw.
As Fire Chief of the Town of Orangeville, Chief Morden will be leading a composite department with more than 45 full-time and volunteer firefighters. He will be responsible for the management and administration of the Fire Department, fire suppression, fire prevention operations and programs, and related emergency services.
Chief Morden resides in Orangeville, with his wife Angela. Together they have four grown children, and one granddaughter, Lily.
“I am looking forward to continuing to support the Town of Orangeville and its residents as Fire Chief,” he said. “It is an honour to lead an incredible group of fire service professionals within the Orangeville Fire Department. With an emphasis on fire and rescue services, fire prevention and public education we will continue to enhance the services that the community deserves.”
“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ronald Morden to the position of Fire Chief and I am looking forward to continuing to work with him,” said Interim Chief Administrative Officer Ed Brennan. “Over the past eight months as Acting Chief, Ronald has consistently demonstrated his leadership and competence, and has earned the respect and confidence of firefighters, Council and administration.”
