The Orangeville Show Chorus will bring music and storytelling together for Postcards from the Heart on Nov. 7, with performances at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Westminster United Church.

Director Laurie Moore said that the fall concert centers on a granddaughter who discovers a bundle of old postcards in an attic.

“The storyline starts as a granddaughter finds a bundle of old postcards in the attic that are addressed to her grandmother,” she said. “Through the reading of the postcards in the music, we get a glimpse into her grandmother’s life and all of the lives of the people that she loves. So there’s just little tidbits of postcards followed by songs. Of course, the songs support the message of the postcards. That’s the idea of the storyline.”

The program will feature familiar songs, including Memories by Maroon 5 and Brave by Sara Bareilles. Guest performers include the Loo-Wops, a young men’s quartet founded by University of Waterloo students.

Young performers from the chorus’s Aca Pop workshop will also take the stage, presenting songs after a free full-day program for youth in grades four through 12. The workshop was sponsored by the Optimist Club in Orangeville, Boston Pizza Orangeville, and Region 16 of Sing United International.

Participants in the chorus’s fall membership series will join for two songs, bringing together community members who have been exploring a cappella harmony this season.

The Orangeville Show Chorus is a group of about 30 women who sing a cappella harmony.

The chorus meets weekly and competes annually at the regional level under the umbrella of Sing United International.

“We love to sing together,” Moore said. “We love to laugh together. We’re friends and riser mates, and it’s just something that we would love to share with the rest of the community.”

Tickets are $30, with admission for children 12 and under priced at $15. Proceeds will help cover the chorus’s music, costume and venue rental expenses.
