Orangeville Tennis Club holding BBQ this weekend

Tennis is back!

The Orangeville Tennis Club (OTC) is hosting their annual Opening Day Barbecue on Saturday, April 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event is open to returning members and welcomes anyone interested in joining the club or learning more about programs and memberships.

The club is located on Second Ave, near Rotary Park, and offers four outdoor courts and a spacious clubhouse.

The courts are busy with lesson programs and leagues all summer. Club pro, Michael Soden, runs after school youth programs and children’s tennis camps in the summer months, as well as adult clinics, private lessons and live ball.

Adult house leagues are popular at OTC, and there are interclub teams that compete on a local circuit, including a Thursday morning “Freedom 55” league.

“Membership for a family of four is only $200.00,” says club president Rose Brett. “That’s unlimited play for five months – there are no additional court fees.”

A single adult membership is $100.00. Brett suggests checking out the club’s website (orangevilletennisclub.ca) for more information or for online registration.

Volunteers will be busy on Saturday morning, cleaning up the courts and setting up the nets and windscreens for a new season. Brett encourages tennis fans to come down and help with the set up and stay for the barbecue and a game or two.

“We can’t wait to start hitting balls again,” says Brett. “Nothing says spring like the sound of a tennis ball getting whacked.”
