Orangeville Police have charged two teens with racing a motor vehicle after they were observed travelling at a high rate of speed and swerving in and out of westbound lanes on west Broadway last Tuesday night.

On Tuesday, October 15, an Orangeville Police officer was conducting speed enforcement on the west end of Broadway. Shortly after 9:00 p.m. the officer observed a yellow Toyota Scion and a white Mazda 3 travelling westbound appearing to be striving against one another.

Both vehicles were exceeding the speed limit and were swerving from one lane to another to pass slower vehicles.

The Toyota Scion was clocked travelling 34 km/h over the posted speed limit and the Mazda 3 at 35 km/h over the speed limit.

Police conducted traffic stops on both vehicles. As a result of the investigation, both drivers were charged with racing a motor vehicle.

Police seized both vehicles for a seven-day impoundment and each driver received a seven-day licence suspension.

Trent Gautier, 18, and Tristan Holden, 18, both of Mono, are scheduled to appear in court in Orangeville on November 13 to answer to the allegations.
