It was a fantastic weekend for lacrosse when over 40 teams came to Orangeville to participate in the OMFLL 2023 Fall Ball Lacrosse Championships on Saturday, Oct. 14.
Over 40 teams from across the province participated and arrived from as far away as Hamilton and Quinte.
The event included teams in several age groups ranging from U9 to U17, with U11, U13, and U15 teams filling in between. The U9 division had the most entries, with 18 teams taking part in the tournament.
Games were all completed between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Championship games were played at Orangeville District Secondary School and Rotary Park.
The Orangeville Northmen had a strong showing in the championship, fielding teams in every age division, with a total of six Northmen teams taking part in the day’s competition.
It was a round-robin style of play as teams vied for a chance to make it to the final game.
Each division had its own set of rules regarding time limits and overtime play.
Full wooden sticks were not allowed in the tournament. U13 and under players required a stick 34 inches in length as a minimum, while players over U13 required a stick that had a minimum 40-inch length.
The action was fast and furious as teams put out a good effort all around throughout the day.
The weather also cooperated, providing a slightly cool temperature for spectators but making for a good day on the field for participants.
This was the final tournament for the season.
Lacrosse will resume with a new season in April 2024.
