Ontario is celebrating and recognizing the vital work that volunteers do in their communities.
In 2022, the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards were presented to 3,400 people across the province. At a recent local ceremony held on Tuesday Sept. 26, 2023, in Brampton at the Embassy Grand Convention Centre, a total of 1,267 volunteer-years were celebrated. A total of 45 volunteer-years were contributed by Orangeville Food Bank volunteers.
Last year’s ceremony was held by Zoom, and unfortunately there wasn’t a live event. In 2021, the Orangeville Food Bank’s contribution was a magnificent 70 volunteer-years in total.
On Thursday evening (Nov. 2), Orangeville Food Bank gathered at the Food Bank to celebrate its award recipients for both 2021 and 2022.
“It is a pleasure to make these nominations, such a small amount of administrative time to say a huge thank you for many years of dedicated support,” said Lori Robertshaw, Orangeville Food Bank volunteer coordinator.
“Each year, organizations may nominate up to six adults and two youths. Awards are given for increments of five years for adults, with just two years for youths. We were thrilled to include Darrin for a youth recipient this year as he has contributed over two years of dedication to our team, all while working and now off to the Police academy for studies. This award is a ‘big deal’ as it is being recognized provincially and how lovely to be able to nominate people and see them proudly accept their certificates for such kindness and their gift of time.”
