The Orangeville Flyers U13 AA rep are having a stellar season.
The team played 22 games without a loss. They finally came up short losing to Oakville on Saturday, December 11, on home ice to break that undefeated record.
The team is in first place in their division and has had some outstanding success during tournament play this season.
The team won their own Orangeville Early Bird Fall Classic on home ice that took place on November 26-28.
They continued the winning streak when they participated in the Halton Hills Best of the Best Tournament on December 4-5, and won that one as well.
“I think they’re playing as a team,” said head coach, Andrew Rahn, of the team’s success. “They’re a band of brothers. They’re passing the puck very well. I think they all understand they have to all pull in the same direction to get the win, and on and off the ice they guys generally like each other.”
The loss to Oakville was a good learning experience for the squad as the Oakville team gave them quite a challenge. It was the first time the teams had met this year.
Coach Rahn said he hopes they meet up with some other similar skill teams.
“I think we move the puck well,” he said. “They’re not selfish hockey players – that’s what makes the difference – they like to pass the puck. I’m hoping for more competition like Oakville because that will bring our game up. I don’t see why we can’t finish first or second in this league, and that could lead to an Ontario championship. That gives us something to shoot for.”
The team celebrated their successful season by hosting a donation night for the Orangeville Food Bank during their home game on Saturday, December 11.
After the weekend, the Orangeville Flyers AA rep team are coasting on an 18-1-4 record for the season.
