16 teams register for event

Curling is one sport where age is no limit.

It may get hard on the knees when you get a little older but that doesn’t stop a lot of long time players from getting out on the ice.

The Classic Masters Bonspiel will get underway at the Orangeville Curling Club on Wednesday, November 30, featuring teams from around the province.

“In curling circles, the Masters is curling from age 60 years and up,” explained Bonspiel organizer Gus Dickson. “A lot of clubs have bonspiels. Orangeville hasn’t hosted a bonspiel of this type for years. We came up with the idea of doing a really good event for the Masters age group.”

There is no shortage of Masters players who want to come out with hopes of taking home the top prize.

Sixteen teams have registered with 64 experienced players ready to get out on the sheet and compete.

“We filled up already. We have teams coming from all over. Sixteen teams will be arriving to compete,”  Mr. Dickson said. “We also have a lot of volunteers – all men – who will be running the tournament. Our sponsors have been very generous.”

The event is sponsored by the Hockley Valley Brewing company and Paradise Farms who will be supplying lunch for the group as well as offering prizes.

Tournament play for the bonspiel will get underway in the morning and run through all day at the Orangeville Curling Club.

Curling is one of the most popular sports in the country with almost every city and town having a curling centre.

Leagues are organized including a variety of skill levels and all ages are included.
