Orangeville’s MacMaster-Buick-GMC has been recognized as the number one Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) General Motors dealership in Ontario for 2019.
The annual award recognizes the top-selling CPO dealer in Ontario by volume. In 2019, MacMaster sold an incredible 509 vehicles through its CPO program to land the award.
According to Danny Brackett, owner of Brackett Auto Group, parent company of MacMaster-Buick-GMC, this is an award that is years in the making.
“For years we’ve been right around the top spot – finishing second a couple of years ago, fourth and fifth at different point as well, but we’ve never quite been able to finish number one. There would be times when we’d be the number one seller for a month, but never for an entire year,” Mr. Brackett said. “I couldn’t believe it when it finally happened this year. I’m really proud of the entire team at MacMaster – this is such an incredible achievement.”
Various representatives from GM’s head office in Oshawa made the trip to Orangeville last Thursday (March 5) to officially present Mr. Brackett with his award.
Also in attendance was Darin Patterson, Ontario Regional Manager for Motors Insurance Corporation. Speaking to the Citizen, Mr. Patterson outlined how the CPO program works.
“We go back nine model years for CPO vehicles, and anything under 160,000 kilometres can qualify as a CPO vehicle,” Mr. Patterson said. “A dealer may determine, based on interior or exterior look of the vehicle, how much it will cost to recondition a car to be front-line ready, whether a car is deemed to be a CPO vehicle. We leave that entirely to the discretion of the dealer.”
He noted that any vehicle with CPO designation has been put through a 150-plus point inspection, while vehicles sold through the program automatically come with a minimum three-month or 5,000 kilometre warranty, and can be exchanged within 30-days of purchase.
“It’s a peace-of-mind for the customer that, when they leave the dealership, they know the car has been inspected, it’s been reconditioned and it’s got a base warranty,” Mr. Patterson said. “There’s also a comfort level there, knowing that if anything goes wrong they can bring the car back and the customer will be looked after. MacMaster does a great job of doing that.”
MacMaster was the top-ranked Ontario dealership out of more than 100 General Motors CPO dealers across the province, and placed eighth at the national level, Mr. Patterson said. Since General Motors’ CPO program was launched in 1998, more than 1.4 million CPO vehicles have been sold across the country.
Joe De Stefano, National CPO Sales and Marketing Manager for General Motors Canada, reserves special praise for Mr. Brackett and his team during last Thursday’s presentation.
“I’m really excited to be here. I want to congratulate MacMaster for being the number one CPO dealer in Ontario. This team worked very hard to cross the 500 unit threshold. In selling 509 units last year, that’s a ten point increase from 2018, which is a phenomenal achievement that only happens through hard work,” Mr. De Stefano said. “I know what it’s like in the store – personal sacrifices are made to drive the business forward, and I want to acknowledge you for that.”
He added, “This is a special team. I’ve had the opportunity today to meet different members of the MacMaster team. Every conversation I had, I walked away feeling more inspired. That’s because the team here is so passionate and enthusiastic about building the MacMaster brand.”
After climbing to the top of the CPO mountain in 2019, the challenge this year, Mr. Brackett says, will be staying there.
“Round two is always a challenge, but with the team we have here, anything is possible. I’m so lucky, so fortunate to have such a great bunch of people working here. Sometimes, that makes all the difference,” Mr. Brackett said.
