The Hockey Historic Community Hall and Church, which sits on the Mono-Adjala Townline, has approached Mono Council for funding for 2021.
Both these buildings are historical landmarks in Mono, with the Church being over 150 years old and the Community Centre about 125. They are currently being very well maintained by volunteers, under a Board of Directors.
They, like so many, have been hard hit by this pandemic and have had to close both facilities because of it. This has severely cut down their income potential and they are running out of savings. They do not qualify for any of the Government relief plans and their monthly expenses sit at about $435, even though they are closed.
They are asking both Mono and Adjala-Tosorontio to cover theses costs, jointly, until such time as they can reopen their facilities.
Mono Council were unanimous in their support of the request, however Mayor Laura Ryan noted that if they support one they may be expected to support all and there are many organizations in Mono in need. CAO Mark Early suggested they leave it for the 2021 budget, when they will know what Adjala will do to support the request. Council agreed with this approach.
