It’s been two long years since regular season lacrosse has been played.

Lacrosse leagues in Ontario are going ahead with a full season this year and both players and fans are glad to be back in local arenas playing the sport and cheering on their teams.

The Orangeville Junior B Northmen are back with a full 20 game regular season schedule this year as members of the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League.

The Northmen hosted the Newmarket Saints during their home opener at the Alder Street arena in Orangeville on Tuesday, April 26.

Orangeville took an early 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Keaton Brown, and Gordie Power.

Gage Noseworthy scored at just 8 seconds into the second period.

Newmarket responded with a couple of goals, but the Northmen hit back hard scoring six more in the period to lead 9-3 with one period left go.

Northmen goals came from Jaden Simick, Brown, Josh Presley for two, and two from Power.

In the third period the Northmen kept up the pressure but allowed five Newmarket goals.

The Northmen scored five third period goals to stay ahead and leave the floor with a 14-8 win.

Northmen goals came from Leighton Cooke, Jack Fitzpatrick, Power for his fourth of the game, Jake Dithurbide, and Keaton Brown.

The Junior B League has 23 teams entered in competition this year.

The Northmen are in the South East Division along with the Brampton Excelsiors, Mountaineers, and the Halton Hills Bulldogs.

The regular season runs through to June 20, before the teams head into the playoffs.

On the bench for the Northmen this season are head coach, Brandon Sanderson, and assistant Dustin Caravello.

The Northmen will be back at the Alder Street arena on Saturday, May 7, to host the Akwesasne Indians.

Game time is 7:00 p.m.
