The Orangeville Junior B Northmen had only one game this week but they finished with a decisive win over the Elora Mohawks.
The Northmen made the trek to Elora on Sunday, June 12.
Opening the first period with a strong start, the Orangeville squad was leading 3-1 when the buzzer sounded to end the period.
Northmen goals came from Mike Sutton, Grant Scott, and Grayson Houghton.
The Northmen expanded the lead with two goals from Riley Thompson and Scott Dominey before the clock ticked off two minutes in the second period.
Orangeville kept the lead out-scoring the Mohawks 4-3 for the period on additional goals from Thompson and Shane Hillis.
The third period saw neither team being able to do much on the scoreboard. The Northmen came up short and the Mohawks managed to score a single, but that was it.
The Northmen left the arena with a 7-5 win.
The win leaves the Orangeville squad out in the lead in the Mid West division of the OJBLL with a 16-1 record and 32 points. That’s 12 points ahead of the second place Guelph Regals and 14 points ahead of the third place Elora Mohawks.
Over all the Northmen are tied for first place in the League with the Green Gaels of the Mid East Division.
The Northmen have only three games left on the schedule in the regular season.
They will be back in action at their home base at the Alder Street arena tonight (Thur., June 16) when they will host the Guelph Regals.
Game time is 8:00 p.m.
