A 5-3 weekend win (May 28) over the St. Catharines Spartans improved the Orangeville Junior B Northmen record to 11-2 for the season.
The win leaves the Northmen in first place in the Mid West division of the OJBLL with 22 points and second place over all – four points behind the first place Six Nations Rebels.
The trip to St. Catharines came a week after their last game when they thumped the Guelph Regals 12-0 on May 19.
Sunday’s game against the Spartans was a low scoring affair with the Northmen lighting up the scoreboard in the first period on goals from Grayson Houghton and Colin Courtney.
A Spartans goal at 1:15 into the second period closed the gap but not for long.
Jarett Petrie hit the back of the St. Catharines goals just over three minutes later followed by another Northmen goal from Parker Baile to make it a 4-1 game with one period left to play.
The Spartans challenged in the third with two goals to put the pressure on the Northmen to stay ahead.
The O-ville squad got some insurance when Scott Dominey scored with 1:37 left on the clock to leave the floor with a 5-3 win. The Northmen will go up against the Point Edward Pacers on June 3.
They return to the Alder Street arena on Sunday, June 4, when they host the Niagara Thunderhawks.
Game time is 4:00 p.m.
