The first period of Saturday (Dec. 10) night’s game against the Buffalo Jr. Sabres proved costly for the Orangeville Jr A Flyers when the visitors outscored the home town team 3-1 and kept ahead for the rest of the game.

The Sabres opened the scoring just 2:40 into the first period.

That was matched by an O-ville goal from Zack Lyons at the 5:35 mark.

Two more Sabres goals ended the frame with Buffalo taking a two goal lead and putting the pressure on the Flyers to get back into the game.

Buffalo extended the lead to three late in the second period.

Flyers’ forward Liam Winslow found the back of the Buffalo net with just under a minute and a-half remaining leaving the O-ville squad down two goals going into the final twenty minutes of play.

The only goal scored in the third period was a late powerplay goal by the Sabres and Buffalo left the ice with a 5-2 win.

Flyers goalie Ruan Badenhorst took 51 shots for the night managing 46 saves while Buffalo goale Tucker Weppner managed 46 saves over 48 shots on net.

Penalties were even for the night with both teams taking 12 minutes in minors for the game.

It was also Teddy Bear toss night.

Visitors were asked to bring a toy bear to the game and when the Flyers scored their first goal the bears were launched onto the ice by the fans.

The bears were collected by the team and donated to the Salvation Army for delivery to needy children.

The Flyers will be back in action on home ice this Saturday night when they host the Oakville Blades at the Alder Street arena.

Game time is 7:00 p.m.
