Introducing Mike Pickford, news editor

October 19, 2016   ·   1 Comments

There’s a new face at the Orangeville Citizen.

Mike Pickford, who started as news editor this week, has a strong background in community news.

He graduated from the journalism program at Durham College, and began his career as a reporter and news editor in western Canada. He’s originally from Manchester, England but has spent a decade in Canada.

Most recently, Mike ran the newsroom at the Bonnyville Nouvelle in Alberta. Not only is he experienced in covering community events, he enjoys getting those breaking “hard” news stories to the readers.

His top priority is to “get out there” and meet as many people as possible. “You’ll see me out at council meetings, the hockey arena, community festivals… I’m not going to be the man behind the desk. I plan to represent not only the newspaper, but also the community and the people.”

Mike invites members of the community to meet with him and discuss news matters and stories they’d like covered – or just stop in at the Citizen office to say hello.

His strengths as a journalist include having an outgoing personality and an ability to talk to anyone.

At the same time, he respects and intends to continue “the fine work that’s been a tradition at the Orangeville Citizen over the years.”

Said Mike, “I intend to carry on the work that’s been done, and take it to the next level.”

Good Day Sir: I am dropping a note to you for my concerns about Kyle Seeback your paper to make policial statements on behalf of the Conservative Party. I think with a large media budget that he has it should be used on his on coin. The whole situation about supporting Pete Polivie is the most unacceptable to a community paper. When you look at the games being played in Ottawa it is school stuff happening! Furthermore we need the focus to be on helping to support Canada and not Trump. Also is Charlie Hooker an employee at your paper? He seems to get his opinion posted the most?
    Please consider my words
    Thx
    Gary
