Orangeville Mayor Lisa Post proclaims Feb. 20 to 26, 2023 as Heritage week in the Town of Orangeville. Heritage Day was marked on Feb. 20.
For Heritage Week, Heritage Orangeville invites citizens to celebrate heritage in all its forms. Heritage Orangeville works to preserve and recognize historically, architecturally and culturally significant properties in town.
The theme Heritage Canada has chosen for this year’s Heritage Day is “Recovering and connecting our heritage – Stronger Together.”
In keeping with this theme, Heritage Orangeville asks the community to reflect those that have left a legacy of community for us to follow and to pass on to those who follow us.
Citizens can find inspiration to deal with the challenges of our times as we remember the hard work and ingenuity of the first settlers to establish a community in the wilderness together.
Learn about the history of Orangeville by taking part in an historic walking tour or explore the Broadway Medians (which represents elements from the community’s past). “Footsteps from our past” walking tour brochures are available at Town Hall or you can download the Driftscape App for an interactive experience and follow up to three self-guided tours.
Members of Orangeville Council and Heritage Orangeville urge all Orangeville residents and business owners to reflect on what the Town’s heritage means to them. The streets, buildings, and other cultural remnants of our past remind us that we have lessons in resiliency to learn from those who came before us; lessons that can help us move forward into our future.
