Health and wellness fair coming to town on Sunday

Orangeville’s Tony Rose Memorial Sports Centre will play host to a special ‘New Year, New You, New Way of Life’ health and wellness fair this Sunday, with a number of “leading” health experts in the fields of fitness, food and supplements slated to attend.

Sponsored by Harmony Whole Foods Market, the five-hour fair will feature a demonstration from “local sprouting master” Thomas Elcome of Nature’s Nurturing, as well as a 15-minute presentation on a family’s guide to health and healing from renowned nutritionist Anna Maria Clement, co-director of Hippocrates Health Institute, located in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The main feature of the fair is an hour-long seminar with the polarizing Brian Clement, another co-director at Hippocrates Health Institute, who will talk about his book LifeForce: Superior Health and Longevity. For those who recognize the name, Mr. Clement was the focus of a number of CBC exposés between 2014 and 2015, highlighting the controversial way he promoted a number of the programs offered by his spa in Florida.

According to the CBC reports, Mr. Clement has made a number of contentious claims in recent years, most notably at a lecture at the Six Nations reserve near Brantford, when he claimed his institute had “more people reverse cancer than any institute in the history of health care.” CBC also claims to have obtained a recording of a lecture Mr. Clement gave in Montreal in September of 2015 when he said a visitor at Hippocrates Health Institute had reversed multiple sclerosis thanks to the treatment received at the spa.

While many have expressed their opinion about Mr. Clement, Toronto-resident Michele Riel had nothing but good words to say about a man she has gotten to know quite well over the past few years. Having taken on an active role in helping to organize the event in Orangeville, Ms. Riel said she expects it to be a “fantastic fair” that will go a long way to educating those in attendance about how to maintain a “different sort” of healthy living lifestyle.

“I’ve known Brian and Anna Maria for a number of years now and the work they do, both at the facility in Florida and at events just like the one happening in Orangeville, is nothing short of amazing. They truly care about helping people,” Ms. Riel said. “They have had a massive impact in my life and my family’s life over the past few years. They’ve made such a wonderful difference. The programs they offer at Hippocrates Health Institute are truly exceptional – they have changed our lives.”

Looking towards the fair, Ms. Riel said she was excited to hear what both Brian and Anna Marie have to say, with Mr. Clement expected to host “sort of a ‘Nutrition 101’”, discussing how people can use food to improve their health.

“Brian will be talking about a number of things, but one thing he will be focusing on is the five-tier approach to optimal living. He’ll be breaking down what we call five-star foods and how you can get the maximum nutrition from the foods you’re eating,” Ms. Riel said.

A large part of that section of the seminar will touch on the benefits of eating different types of sprouts, piggybacking off another key presenter, Thomas Elcome.

“We’re excited to have Thomas on board for the event,” Ms. Riel said. “He’s pretty well known in this area for his expertise in growing sprouts. He’ll have a 15 to 20-minute demonstration and then a question and answer period afterwards, so people will have chance to talk to him about what he does.”

With 20 vendors expected to be in attendance, the fair is “the place to be” this weekend for all health and nutrition nuts in the area. Tickets for the event cost $5 and can be purchased at the door. The fair will take place in the upstairs hall of the arena on Sunday (Feb. 5) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“This is a unique opportunity for the people of Orangeville to come out and learn from some of the leading experts in the health and nutrition fields. We have some fantastic vendors on hand. Come out and join us for what we’re sure is going to be a fantastic event,” Ms. Riel concluded.
