Foote Law recently celebrated its grand opening in town, looking to be a forward thinking, and innovative law firm.

The grand opening took place on Wednesday, Nov. 21. The firm, located at 162 Broadway, Suite 9, provides service to surrounding areas including, but not limited to, Brampton, Alliston, Shelburne, and Grand Valley. The firm specializes in family and criminal law matters.

“I’ve always known I wanted to be an entrepreneur, wanted to run my own practice,” said founder and owner Jessica Foote. “My family was involved with law in one way or another, so that kind of sparked my interest.”

She earned an Honours Baccalaureate in Business Administration and Management from the University of Guelph. She also attended Osgoode Hall Law School and obtained her Juris Doctor. Throughout law school, Ms. Foote furthered her commitment to social justice by volunteering with the Family Law Project within the Brampton Superior Court of Justice.

“It’s extremely exciting. I’m very excited,” she said, with this being her goal she has worked towards for over a decade. “I’m happy to say I’ve finally reached this point.”

A resident of Orangeville for over 30 years, Ms. Foote is a presenter of the Mandatory Information Program for Peel Family Mediation Services. She is a member of the board of directors for the Dufferin County Law Association, the Ontario Bar Association, the Family Law Association, and the Criminal law Association, as well as the University Women’s Club of Orangeville, Dufferin Women in Business and the Dufferin Board of Trade.

She explained that she originally started out with insurance defence, but it wasn’t for her, wanting a more personal experience. “Working for large corporations didn’t give me the same sense of satisfaction. I just feel more passionate working with the individual and working face to face with people.”

Outgoing Mayor Jeremy Williams was on hand to celebrate the grand opening, and presenting Ms. Foote with a plaque thanking her for establishing the law firm in town. “You’re a very skilled individual, you could be anywhere, and you chose to make Orangeville your home.”

“To be able to work here and work with the community members is something I’ve always wanted to do,” Ms. Foote noted.

She added she is looking forward to establishing roots in town. “There is still a long road ahead.”

The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information visit their website at www.footelaw.ca or contact Ms. Foote at JFoote@FooteLaw.ca or by calling 519-939-2529.
