Orangeville’s newest restaurant held a grand opening on Tuesday, September 24.
Firehouse Subs, located on Riddell Road, specializes in hot subs ‘piled high’ with such toppings as smoked turkey breast, corned beef brisket, and premium roast beef.
Firehouse Subs has been in business for 20 years in the U.S. and is now catching fire in Canada.
The Orangeville location will be number 30 in the country.
The restaurant gets its name and theme from the founders who were firefighters in Jacksonville, Florida and has kept the firefighting theme through all the restaurants.
The Orangeville restaurant has a fire engine red decor with fire truck inspired chrome panels on the walls.
It is, however, all about the food.
“We make subs that are steamed, meat piled high,” explained Orangeville Firehouse Subs co-owner Jason Edgar. “There’s a quarter-pound of meat on the medium sub and a half-pound of meat on the large – so we have large portions. The subs are all unique and they’re all named after fire fighting gear. We also server chili and different soups and salads.”
Names like the Hook and Ladder, the Engineer, and Fire House Hero, are listed on the menu.
The decision to open a business in Orangeville was based on location and an opportunity to thrive in a growing town.
“We chose Orangeville because it’s a fantastic location,” Mr. Edgar explained. “It’s a great area and we’re really excited about it.”
The restaurant has been training staff over the past couple of weeks. They will be starting with around 25 employees to get the business up and operating.
The restaurant chain also is community-minded and operates a Public Safety Foundation.
The Foundation raises funds to improve the life-saving capabilities of first responders and public safety organizations served by Firehouse Subs.
Firehouse Subs is located at 520 Riddell Road in Orangeville.
