Dufferin OPP is calling on the local community to help identify an individual wanted in connection with a theft at the Orangeville Walmart on Saturday (Oct. 17).

At around 2:40 p.m. a local resident was shopping at the store, when she realized her wallet had been stolen from her shopping cart while she was inside. Once the victim realized the theft had occurred, she checked her online banking to find that the stolen cards had already been used to make purchases somewhere else in town.

It was quickly determined that the cards had been used at Zehr’s, located on nearby Fourth Avenue. Investigating officers have recently received an image of a person using the stolen bank cards to make the purchase and are working to identify the individual.

Dufferin OPP is advising members of the community to be aware of their surroundings at all times, and to keep valuable items secured and inaccessible to others.

Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to contact Dufferin OPP at 519-925-3838.

Impaired drivers arrested

Local OPP officers apprehended two impaired drivers in Orangeville last Thursday within an hour of one another.

The first vehicle was seen not stopping for a red light on Broadway. Following further investigation, police charged 29-year-old Sang-Min Oh of Thornhill with impaired driving, driving with alcohol readily available and failing to stop at a red light.

In the second incident, a concerned citizen alerted police of a male driving erratically on Chisholm St. Officers attended the scene and, following a short investigation, arrested 32-year-old Shane Hylton of Brampton. He was charged with operation of a vehicle while impaired, failing to comply with police demands, operation of a vehicle while prohibited, and failure to comply with probation.

Both parties were released, with a future court date to be set up at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville.
