The Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a gathering with over 1,500 people in attendance that took place on a rural property in Amaranth.

On Sunday (July 25) at approximately 9:15 p.m., members of the Dufferin OPP responded to several noise complaints and reports of a large gathering of people at an address of a rural property in Amaranth.

Police attended the location and observed approximately 1,000 cars parked in the fields of the property, loud music, spot lights, and an estimated 1,500 people in attendance.

Rapid Deployment Officers from several OPP Detachments including, Caledon, Huronia West and Nottawasaga, attended the scene to assist with dispersing the crowd and traffic control as vehicles vacated the premise.

The organizer of the gathering has since been identified and charges under the Reopening Ontario Act (ROA) are pending.

Public safety remains the top priority. While the OPP encourages everyone to follow emergency measures and health recommendations, officers continue to investigate and take necessary action in response to incidents reported under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA) an! d Re-opening Ontario Act (ROA). We are working with local Public Health Units (PHUs), bylaw enforcement and other agencies.
