The Dufferin Board of Trade celebrated some of the area’s leading business minds and organizations last week in yet another instalment of its annual Business Excellence Awards.
Taking place at the OAS Event Centre in Mono, the event brought together many of Dufferin’s business leaders from the past year to celebrate their hard work, achievements and accomplishments. In total eight awards were fished out under a variety of different categories. Mag Ruffman served as host of the evening, introducing and congratulating each of the award recipients.
Steve Bowles, owner of Auto Centre Dufferin County in Shelburne, was named Business Citizen of the Year for his involvement in the local community. Highland Restoration DKI was named Business of the Year with 10 or more employees, while My Broadcasting Corp was named Business of the Year with less than 10 employees.
Family Transition Place was recognized as the Association of the Year, while Snapd Dufferin was presented with the Innovator Award. Headwaters Dental was recognized again in 2018 after multiple nominations last year, with the organization claiming the Community Builder award. Shelburne Family Chiropractic won the Emerging Business Award.
In what was a nice way to round out his time in the Dufferin business community, Philip DeWar of Soulyve was named Young Professional of the Year. It was revealed this summer that Mr. DeWar would be closing his popular Jamaican-themed restaurant, located on Mill Street, on Dec. 31.
Pete Renshaw, Chair of the Dufferin Board of Trade, congratulated each of the award recipients for their fine work over the past 12 months.
“This event marked the culmination of Small Business Week in Dufferin County,” Mr. Renshaw said. “Each nominee should be very proud of their achievements and contributions to our community. Special congratulations to our 2018 award recipients.”
