Increased safety measures are coming to Riddell Rd.

Orangeville Council voted to move forward with the installation of protected left turn signals at the Spencer Ave., Alder, and Centennial intersections of Riddell Rd at its regular meeting last Monday (Jan. 25).

The total budget cost is $87,000 and has been included in the Town’s 2021 Budget.

A number of residents have brought forward concerns to Town Council regarding the three intersections and Coun. Lisa Post noted that this is a great first step for improving safety in that area.

“I think it’s going to make a big difference in that neighbourhood and I hope that the residents of the neighbourhood will be happy with this as a starting point, and I hope that they’ll see a difference in the way that they’re able to enter and exit their neighbourhood,” Coun. Post remarked.

Coun. Todd Taylor said he’s appreciative of the residents who brought this issue forward and advocated to Council.

Going forward, Mayor Sandy Brown said over the next few years, it’s his hope that Council can put a plan together to make Riddell the bypass road that it was intended to be, instead of being stop and start, which creates more danger.
