In March and April, Orangeville Public Library is once again hosting the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) at the Mill Street Library. The free clinic, staffed by trained volunteers, assists individuals and families e-file their 2021 tax return. Eligible individuals, from students to seniors, with a modest income and a simple tax situation can use this service.
Starting on Tuesday, March 1, there will be two ways to access the tax clinic:
The walk-in clinics will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Subject to pandemic restrictions, inperson interviews with a CVITP volunteer are available. Participants need to bring personal identification, all tax slips, rent or property tax receipts, charitable donations, and COVID-19 benefit slips.
For the drop-off service, individuals will present ID, sign a consent form, and leave receipts with library staff. A tax volunteer will follow up to conduct a telephone interview. After the tax return is filed online, the original tax receipts will be mailed back to the participant at no charge. The last drop-off date is Tuesday, April 26.
The free tax clinic is offered with support from the Canada Revenue Agency. In 2021, working with the Orangeville Public Library, local CVITP tax volunteers completed more than 200 tax returns through telephone interviews. Their community service returned thousands of dollars in tax benefits directly to those who accessed this valuable service.
