Want to show Orangeville your winter spirit, how festive you are? Would you like to outdo Clark Griswold? Then participate in the Orangeville Communities in Bloom (CiB) 4th annual Winter Lights Contest, to help spread some Christmas spirit.
The contest runs from now until Wednesday, December 20.
Prizes will be awarded in five categories: Most Decorated Street, Best Decorated Outdoor Tree, Best Decorated Business, Mayor’s Griswold Award for the best decorated small and large house, and the Orangeville Spirit Award for most liked entry on Facebook.
The winners will be announced on Friday, December 22. To take part in the contest, post a photo of your entry on the CiB Facebook page, email cib@orangeville.ca, or call 519-940-9092 Ext 4109. The deadline submission is the 20th.
Anyone who wants to enter the contest is asked to have energy-efficient lighting (exclusively LED or florescent lights.)
Jill Cutter, one of the CiB’s committee members, says they are hoping the town will become a winter wonderland, as it’s another way for the organization to continue with the town all year, instead of just in the summer.
“Developing community pride and spirit is part of Communities in Bloom.”
“We’ve done really well,” she says in regards to how the lights contest and overall participation through the town has been growing, during both the summer and winter.
Jane Blears, CiB’s acting-chair, says she’s been seeing more people during the contest “taking pride and looking at making things look good.”
