After a successful regular season and two rounds of playoffs, the North Dufferin Baseball League Senior championship final got underway with the first and second-place teams battling it out in a best-of-seven series to claim the Strother Cup.

The first-place Bolton Brewers will be up against the second-place New Lowell Knights in the championship series.

The Brewers are the favourites in this series – at least if you count the regular season results as an indicator – but both teams are strong, and anyone could win.

Bolton finished in first place, taking only two losses in the regular season. They scored 201 runs, averaging out to nine runs scored per game while allowing just under four runs on average against.

In the first round of playoffs, they eliminated the Lisle Astros in a series that went four games. In the second round, they knocked out the Ivy Rangers in a low-scoring series that went four games.

The Knights finished the season as the second-place team with a 17-4-1 record. They averaged just over seven runs per game while allowing just under four runs against on average.

In the playoffs, they won their first-round series against the Creemore Padres in four games. They went on to compete against the Barrie Angels in the second round of playoffs. They won that series in a three-game sweep, shutting out the Angels in the first game.

The NDBL had a successful season with 12 senior division teams in the line-up this year.

Of those 12 teams, the top eight made the playoffs. Owen Sound, Orillia, Mansfield, and Clarksburg failed to qualify for the playoffs this year.

The playoffs got underway on Aug. 8, with four best-of-five series. The second round of playoffs was also a best-of-five series.

The championship series will go the distance, with the winning team having to win four games to claim the title.

Bolton will host the first game of the championship on Saturday, Sept. 9.
