The Town of Orangeville is launching a new, Adapted Public Swim program, geared towards those with special needs or disabilities, through Orangeville Recreation.

“Everyone in our community deserves an opportunity to participate in recreational swims,” said Mayor Lisa Post. “I am so pleased with this addition to Orangeville’s recreational programming.”

Adapted Public Swims are available at the Tony Rose Memorial Sports Centre (6 Northmen Way, Orangeville) for one hour on Sundays. On July 30 the first swim was held.

During these times, the ladies’ change room will be made accessible to all ages and genders. This will allow family or caregivers to accompany anyone who requires assistance before and after the swim.

“We’re dedicated to removing barriers and providing accessible services to all users,” commented Sharon Doherty-Gaudin, Manager, Recreation and Events. “We hope many more users will be able to take advantage of this special time slot.”

Adapted Public Swims will be held on the following Sundays throughout the summer, between 2:45 to 3:45 p.m.:

·        August 6

·        August 13

·        August 20

·        August 27

The Adapted Public Swims are open to all ages within our community; participants must be accompanied by their own parent or caregiver. Regular admission standards and public swimming fees apply.
