4-3 win on Thursday leads to semi-final

The Westside Secondary School Thunder boy’s hockey team advanced to the semi-final round of District 4-10 playoffs after winning their quarter-final game over Our Lady of Lourdes at the Alder Street arena on Thursday, February 11.

The Thunder left the ice with a 4-3 win in the afternoon game that saw them stay a goal ahead and hang on to the lead for the win.

Over the season the Westside squad had a good year in the District competition placing fourth over all in a field of ten teams.

They ended the regular season with a solid 6-3-2 record including one overtime loss.

The Thunder managed just over four goals per game on average while allowing an average of 2.1 goals against for the year.

That total included three games where they blanked their opponents and finished the game with a shut-out as well as as two games where they held off the opposing team to allow only one goal against.

The Thunder season ended when they came up short and lost 6-2 to Centre Wellington District High School in the semi-final game on Tuesday, February 16, on Centre Wellington home ice.

Over all in the District 4 / 10 regular season the Centre Wellington squad finished in first place followed by Orangeville District Secondary School and John F. Ross CVI.

ODSS knocked out St. James in their quarter-final game with an 8-1 win on February 11.

The ODSS team will now take on Ross in the semi-final round.

That game was scheduled for Wednesday, February 17, with results not available at press time.

The winner of that game will go on to meet Centre Wellington in the District final.

The date for that game has not yet been announced.
